Check out my Shared Items, and let me know if you find any value in the blog posts that I find interesting. I was motived to move because of the Google Gears announcement. I might even swith to using Firefox on my mac. I like safari so much, it is going to be hard to leave. Why do I like safari? I am not quite sure. hmmm

Wordpress 2.2 and Markdown

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

I just updated my blog software to wordpress 2.2. I have never really played much with plugins, but I just installed two plugins that I am rather excited about.

  1. wp-gatekeeper: this plugin will ask dumb, easy questions if you want to comment on my blog. Sometimes captcha is hard for the user to interpret. This plugin is a simple question that everyone should know the answer to, but a computer will not. If I think there could be more than one answer, then I provide a hint. Another neat thing about this plugin is that it will allow me to control the questions that are asked.

  2. markdown: I have been using wordpress for a long time, and I have always wanted to use markdown Wordpress has a WYSIWYG editor, which is OK, however, it does not support Safari. This leaves me with editing html is a plain text input area. Markdown is much more convenient than html. I can also use my textmate editor to post and preview.

Bear with me as I update some of the posts that are really messed up. I hope that you do not have to go back and read all of my old, boring posts.

Testing Textmate Blogging

h1. Blogging Bundle

h2. Summary

This is a test of the textmate blogging bundle. This bundle add blogging functionality to a text editor. You are able fetch posts that you might want to update or you are able post new entries. Four formatting modes are available.

  • Text
  • HTML
  • Markdown
  • Textile

h2. My Experience

I am still experimenting with the way that wordpress will respond to each of the formatting modes.

h3. My Wish List

I with that I was able to cache all of my entries locally instead of fetching one post at a time.

Update:
I need to update my wordpress to allow textile formatting. Of course, that would screw up everything. What to do?

Facebook to sell to Yahoo!

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

$1,000,000,000 is a lot of money. Are these communities worth it? I would love to be a fly in the negotiation room. I actually thing they are. The name of the game is audience. Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube all have a huge audience.

As I look at oppurtunities to experiment with ideas, the key to their success is to have readership and participation. This blog, which nobody reads, is not successful. Why? because nobody reads it. Why is Scoble successful? People read and participate.

I wish that I could sell the reciepe for successful online businesses. It would be all about encouraging millions users to your participate in your community. It probably would not be about cool ideas or bleeding edge technology, which is a soap box that I will spare you from. You? Is there anyone out there?
